“God wants me to be happy.”
It sounds right. After all, doesn’t God want good things for us?
But as we continue our series God Never Said That, we’re discovering that some of the phrases we repeat most often aren’t actually what God promised. And when it comes to happiness, God offers us something even better.
In Week 3, More Than Happy, we’ll discover the difference between temporary happiness and the lasting joy that comes from remaining in Christ. Jesus tells us in John 15 that when we remain in His love and walk in obedience to Him, His joy can be in us and our joy can be complete.
God’s goal for our lives isn’t simply to make us happy. His desire is to transform us, grow us, draw us closer to Him, and teach us to trust Him through every season. Because there will be seasons when we don’t feel happy. There will be disappointment, uncertainty, waiting, and hardship. But even then, we can say, “God, I don’t feel happy, but I trust You.”
That kind of trust doesn’t diminish our joy. It deepens it.
